Why Steel?

Fire Safety

Rainwater tanks play an important role in defending homes against the threat of a bushfire.  Steel water tanks offer greater protection to both residential and commercial properties in the event of a fire than polyethylene (plastic) tanks.  Testing on a Pioneer Water Tank galaxy steel tank with a liner was conducted by the Bushfire Cooperative Research Centre and the CSIRO resulting in:

  • The Pioneer Water Tank maintained structural integrity when subjected to a 30 minute flame immersion test.
  • The trademarked Aqualiner also retained water during and after the fire front, which is critical for the protection of property and assets in the event of a bushfire.
  • But don’t just take our word for it – BCRCFireTestingDocument.

We can allocate a fire fighting reserve within your water tank to ensure a reserve supply.  Galvanised fittings are also able to be ordered with all our water tanks to ensure that your water delivery is not compromised when you need it most.

Durability

The strong Australian sunlight will not soften or degrade the exterior of a steel tank.  Light cannot penetrate the exterior shell ensuring the longevity of the liner and optimisation of water quality through reduced algal growth.

Steel tanks are also environmentally responsible as steel is one of the most recycled materials available and can be recycled even after many years of use.
